A Very Special Birthday, Planned and Led By Our Residents!

On the 2nd April, our residents came together to organise a very special surprise for someone who means a great deal to us all – our Home Manager, Damon. In the days leading up to his birthday, a small group of residents quietly approached the care team with an idea to throw a birthday celebration and show their appreciation for all that Damon does.
With the support of the team, plans were put into motion for a heartfelt get-together. On the day, the lounge was filled with smiles and warm wishes as residents gathered to sing a beautiful rendition of Happy Birthday, led by Sheila Coaker. Sheila, who spent many years as a professional singer, brought a real sense of occasion with her wonderful voice, and it made for a touching start to the afternoon.
The kitchen team prepared a delicious homemade birthday cake that was carefully decorated and enjoyed by everyone, along with a fruity punch and a snacking platter. There was plenty of laughter, stories shared, and a genuine sense of togetherness throughout the celebration.

Damon was deeply moved by the effort that had gone into the afternoon. “I honestly wasn’t expecting anything at all,” he said. “To know that the residents thought to do this and worked with the team to bring it all together means the world to me.”
The event was more than just a birthday celebration. It was a true reflection of the community spirit within our home. Birthdays are a big part of daily life at Alexander House, and we always go above and beyond to make our residents feel special, so they enjoyed being able to give back through their brilliant and sneaky planning. It was also a lovely way for everyone to come together and strengthen the bonds between residents and staff alike
Moments like these are a reminder of what makes our home so special – the shared kindness, the thoughtfulness, and the way we all look out for one another. Whether it’s a birthday, a cup of tea, or just a chat in the garden, it’s these little moments that bring joy to daily life.
