Dementia Care in Exeter

At Alexander House Care Home, we want to ensure that every single one of our residents is getting the care and support they need to live their lives to the absolute fullest. We hope that all of our residents can find moments of calm and times of tranquillity while staying with us, whether that’s in one of our 67 beautiful bedrooms, or in our stunning private gardens. We pride ourselves on being able to offer high standards of care to all of our residents, and we always look forward to welcoming them through our doors.

What is Dementia Care?

Dementia, as a condition, is one that can have a huge impact on how people live their everyday lives. The most difficult part of caring for someone with dementia is that the condition affects everybody differently, so figuring out what kind of care someone needs can be a struggle. Currently, 70% of people in care homes are living with either dementia or severe memory problems. Although it is classed as a cognitive condition, it can eventually lead to symptoms that affect mobility.

The condition might severely alter the way in which someone thinks, moves, or behaves. The level of care or elderly care that each individual needs can be established with a personalised care assessment before moving, making the process that little bit easier. With specialised dementia care given by our incredible team, older people in our residency can reap the many benefits that having 24-hour support can provide.

As of right now, there is no cure for dementia or any other type of memory loss condition, and although research into the disease is underway, there’s still a lot to be done. Dementia care is something we feel incredibly passionate about, and a care home environment provides residents who are living with dementia with a place to feel safe and looked after. A care home gives residents the opportunity to receive the very best specialised care, while also giving them the freedom to continue living life the way they choose to. We only offer the highest quality of service to all of our residents.

Supporting our Residents with Dementia

Our dementia care home in Exeter offers a huge amount of support to all of its residents and their loved ones. We know that living with dementia can be difficult, which is why we always want to be there for our residents when times when tough. We provide our residents with around-the-clock care, and our nurses are always ready to assist our residents with anything they might need. We make sure that every member of our care team is fully qualified.

Our incredible care team here at Alexander House has the tools and expertise to effectively deliver high-quality care to all of our residents with dementia, and can expertly evaluate which therapies are required and when medical plans must be adjusted. We offer specialised, outstanding levels of care to all of our residents, and we love to welcome all residents and friends to come and visit us at Alexander House.

Supporting all of our residents through life is something we take incredibly seriously. That’s why all of our facilities here at Alexander House Care Home have been built and designed with our residents in mind. After each resident’s initial care plan assessment, they’ll be assigned their own beautifully decorated en-suite bedroom for them to call home, which will soon be able to view in our online gallery. They have full access to our garden, a varied activities programme and so much more.

Dementia Care in Exeter

Although we are situated in somewhat of a residential area, we have plenty of things to do. Exeter might be a small city, but it is full of opportunity and adventure. With much to see and do in the centre and on the outskirts of Exeter, our purpose-built home is surrounded by lots of fun and interesting places to visit. On the Killerton estate, there is a running watermill tucked by the River Clyst that goes by the name of Clyston Mill. It’s a National Trust property that’s certainly worth visiting, either by yourself or with the whole family if you’re looking to immerse yourself in history. Exeter Castle, Woodbury Castle and Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery are also fantastic local spots to visit if you’re into history, culture, and learning more about what the beautiful area of East Devon has to offer.

However, if you’d rather spend your time out and about in nature, we recommend paying a visit to Mincinglake Valley Park or RSPB Aylesbeare Common. With plenty of places to take in the great outdoors, spot lots of beautiful wildlife and stroll in the peace and quiet, Exeter isn’t short of places that are guaranteed to take you away from the bustle of the city centre. However, that’s not to say that Exeter isn’t for those who seek excitement and activity. With Crealy Theme Park & Resort situated less than a 20-minute drive away and Raceworld and Tenpin Exeter, you can rest assured knowing that both you and your loved ones will never have a dull moment while staying with us at Alexander House.
