At Alexander House Care Home in Exeter, our teams take every step to ensure that every single one of our residents is getting the care and support they need to live their lives to the absolute fullest. We aim for those who live with us to feel encouraged and supported and find opportunities to socialise, try new things and take comfort in a loving and caring environment. From relaxing in their own luxury en-suite bedroom or one of our communal lounges to spending afternoons in the private garden or hair salon, there is something for each and every resident.

We pride ourselves on being able to deliver high standards of Dementia Care as well as Nursing Care, Residential Care, and Respite Care to each and every resident, and we always look forward to welcoming them through our doors.

What is Dementia Care?

Dementia, as a condition, is one that can have a huge impact on how people live their everyday lives. The most difficult part of caring for someone with dementia is that the condition affects everybody differently, so figuring out what kind of care someone needs can be a difficult and emotional task. Currently, 70% of people in care homes are living with either dementia or severe memory problems. Although it is classed as a cognitive condition, it can eventually lead to symptoms that affect mobility.

The condition might severely alter the way in which someone thinks, moves, or behaves. The level of dementia care or elderly care that each individual needs can be established with a personalised care assessment before moving, making the process that little bit easier. With specialist dementia care and nursing care given by our dedicated team, older people in our residency can reap the many benefits that having 24-hour support can provide.

As of right now, there is no cure for dementia or any other type of memory loss condition, and although research into the condition is underway, there’s still a lot to be done. Dementia care is something we are incredibly passionate about, and dementia care homes provide people who are living with dementia with a place to feel safe and looked after. A care home gives individuals the opportunity to receive the very best specialist care, while also giving them the freedom to continue spending their life the way they choose to. We only offer the highest quality of care and support to all of our residents.

Life in the Local Community of Exeter

Located in the quiet suburb of Pinhoe in Exeter, there is plenty of things for older people to see and enjoy in the local community. Care homes in Exeter can provide some wonderful day trips and excursions, such as to the cathedral and theatre. Whether with family, friends, or fellow residents, there is a variety of ways to fill each day when living at Alexander House Care Home.

Although we are situated in somewhat of a residential area, we have plenty of things to do. Exeter might be a small city, but it is full of experiences and adventure. With much to see and do in the centre and on the outskirts of Exeter, our purpose-built home is surrounded by lots of fun and interesting places to visit. On the Killerton estate, there is a running watermill tucked by the River Clyst that goes by the name of Clyston Mill. It’s a National Trust property that’s certainly worth visiting, either by yourself or with the whole family if you’re looking to immerse yourself in history. Exeter Castle, Woodbury Castle and Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery are also fantastic local spots in Exeter to visit if you’re into history, culture, and learning more about what the beautiful area of East Devon has to offer.

However, if you’d rather spend your time out and about in nature, we recommend paying a visit to Mincinglake Valley Park or RSPB Aylesbeare Common. With plenty of areas to take in the great outdoors, spot lots of beautiful wildlife and stroll in the peace and quiet, Exeter isn’t short of places that are guaranteed to take you away from the bustle of the city centre. However, that’s not to say that Exeter isn’t for those who seek excitement and activity. With Crealy Theme Park & Resort less than a 20-minute drive away as well as Raceworld and Tenpin Exeter, you can rest assured knowing that both you and your loved ones will never have a dull moment while staying with us at Alexander House.
