Dining

Food is one of life’s true pleasures, and our expert kitchen team prepares the finest quality nutritious meals, guaranteeing that all preferences and dietary requirements are met, and that particular favourites can be enjoyed time and time again. The preferences and best interests of our residents are always at the forefront of all we do, and so residents are presented with choices from what they wish to eat, down to where they would prefer to enjoy their meals. Our care home in Exeter has adopted an all-inclusive approach, meaning residents and their loved ones never have to worry about extra costs with the typical dining experience. Everything from soft or alcoholic drinks and snacks to three-course meals is included, so you can focus on enjoying delicious food with like-minded friends while we take care of the rest.

Family and friends are welcome to dine with us and share mealtimes at any time. From Afternoon Tea to a traditional Sunday dinner in ‘Swift’, our private dining room, families can continue to share special occasions and make wonderful memories together.

Healthy, Nutritious Meals Led By Our Residents

The kitchen team at Alexander House is led by a dedicated head chef, supported by a second chef and two kitchen assistants. Together, they provide an ever-changing menu made with high-quality ingredients. Residents can choose from two options for each meal, and orders are taken on the day, as we know choices can change and strive for our residents to have as much freedom as possible

Our main meal is served at lunchtime, followed by a lighter hot option in the evening. Breakfast includes the full works alongside cereals and toast if they wish, including eggs made just how each resident likes them. For those who prefer grazing, they also have unlimited access to a range of lighter meals and snacks throughout the day.

We also enjoy maintaining tradition and serving classic favourites like fish and chips on Fridays and a traditional roast each Sunday, with the meat changing weekly. Our menu is updated seasonally, and resident feedback is actively sought through quarterly meetings and regular feedback forms to keep meals interesting and enjoyable.

Supportive Dining That Prioritises Dignity

Our all-inclusive approach doesn’t just apply to cost. It also means ensuring every resident is fully supported to enjoy mealtimes, no matter what their care needs are. Our chefs are IDDSI trained, and meals for those with texture-modified diets are thoughtfully prepared and attractively presented. Pureed dishes are always fresh and piped carefully so they look and feel just as inviting as every other plate.

The dining experience at Alexander House is designed to be accessible and calm for residents living with dementia. Each dining area uses soft, supportive colours and features a large, interactive menu board to support daily choices. Adapted crockery and plate guards are available where needed and staff provide support to anyone who requires extra help.
